Sarıyahşi is Aksaray's least populous district, lying near the Hirfanlı reservoir on the Kızılırmak river, with Kırşehir to its north, Ağaçören to its east and Ankara's Evren and Şereflikoçhisar districts to its west. It takes its name from Yahşi Han, a Turkish commander who died in the area; it became a district in 1989.
