Opened in 1958 and moved to its current building in 1980, the Amasya Museum holds Hittite, Urartian, Roman and Byzantine artefacts along with 14th-century Islamic-era mummies that were embalmed without removing the organs. These are counted among the earliest known Turkish-Islamic mummies.
