Antalya Museum was founded in 1922 by Süleyman Fikri Erten to protect artefacts from looting by the occupying forces that arrived after the First World War; it was first housed in the Alaaddin Mosque, then the Yivli Mosque, before moving to its current building in 1972. It covers 30,000 square metres with 14 exhibition halls, open-air galleries and a garden, and holds major finds from the region's three ancient cultural areas: Lycia, Pamphylia and Pisidia.
