A large lake that freezes in winter, crossed by horse-drawn sleighs.

Lake Çıldır is a large lake on the border of Ardahan and Kars. In winter its surface freezes; horse-drawn sleighs cross the ice and fishermen cut holes to fish. In summer it takes on a completely different look with the green pastures around it. Akçakale Island in the lake holds the remains of old buildings.
