Buharkent is a small district on the Aydın-Denizli highway, 88 km from central Aydın and 41 km from Denizli. Its name refers to its geothermal springs; Turkey's first geothermal power plant, near the village of Kızıldere, has generated electricity here since 1984. It became a district in 1987.
