Yukarıkale, the citadel on top of the rock on which old Hasankeyf was built, was protected from flooding when the waters of the Ilısu Dam covered the old settlement in 2020. Many historic buildings at the foot of the rock, such as mosques, baths and tombs, were submerged or moved to the Culture Park in new Hasankeyf. Yukarıkale can be approached today on boat tours.
