Yeniçağa lies on the İstanbul-Ankara highway; it took its current name in 1934 on Atatürk's suggestion, to distinguish it from the older settlement of Eskiçağa. Lake Yeniçağa on its edge is a stop for migratory birds and is known for freshwater fishing.
