Lapseki sits on the site of ancient Lampsakos, a harbour city once famous for its wine, continuously settled for about 2,500 years. Today the district is known for cherry growing and holds a Cherry Festival every June; the crossing to Gelibolu on the opposite shore is made by ferry or over the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, completed in 2022.
