Keşan is a large district, covering 1,098 km², in the south of Edirne province near the shores of the Gulf of Saros. Known in antiquity as Zerlanis, the area came under Ottoman rule in the second half of the 14th century; the Gulf of Saros is known for fishing and diving tourism, particularly for grouper, and the district holds a lively market every Saturday.
