Kürtün is a district in north-western Gümüşhane, in the Harşit stream valley, bordered by Giresun's Çanakçı to the north, Trabzon's Şalpazarı and Tonya to the north-east, and Gümüşhane's Torul to the east. The Güvende, Kazıkbeli and Kadırga plateaus are among its natural areas.
