Uluborlu is a district 65 km from central Isparta, known in antiquity as Apollonia or Sozopolis. It came permanently under Seljuk rule in 1180, after the 1176 Battle of Myriokephalon. Following the construction of a dam in 1977, irrigated farming developed and the district became known for cherry growing; its local dish, Uluborlu Banağı, received geographical indication status in 2018.
