Başakşehir is a largely planned residential district on İstanbul's European side, formed in 2008 from parts of Küçükçekmece, Esenler and Büyükçekmece. It is home to the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Turkey's largest stadium, and to Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, used by İstanbul Başakşehir FK; the area around Bahçeşehir Gölet Park offers recreational space.
