Eyüp Sultan Mosque
A pilgrimage-like shrine on the Golden Horn, containing the tomb of the Prophet's companion Abu Ayyub al-Ansari.

Built in 1458, the mosque is a rectangular structure with a projecting mihrab, at whose centre stands the tomb of Eyüp Sultan (Abu Ayyub al-Ansari). Its minarets were made taller in 1733, and the seaward minaret was rebuilt after lightning damage in 1823. Its inner courtyard, with thirteen domes on twelve columns, has a fountain at its centre and is one of the city's most important places of visitation and prayer.
