Ilgaz Mountain rises on the transition belt from Central to Northern Anatolia; its terrain is made up of serpentine, schist and volcanic rock, and it receives heavy snow in winter. The national park, on the border of Kastamonu and Çankırı provinces, has a ski centre within it.
