Near Karahöyük village, Kültepe consists of the ancient city of Kanesh and the neighbouring Assyrian trading colony of Karum. Thousands of cuneiform tablets dating to the early 2nd millennium BC are among the oldest sources for writing and trade in Anatolia. The excavation area and some of the finds can be visited on site.
