The museum was founded in 1990 inside the light weapons factory in Kırıkkale and moved to a new building in the city centre in 2022. Much of the collection came from the weapons factory at Tophane in İstanbul; alongside historic weapons from the Ottoman period to today, it shows weapons made domestically by the Machinery and Chemical Industry corporation (MKE).
