Dilovası, in the west of Kocaeli province between Gebze and Körfez on the shore of the Gulf of İzmit, has a largely industrial economy and is home to five organized industrial zones. Liyssa Castle and a bridge built by the architect Mimar Sinan during the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent are among its historic traces. It became a district in 2008.
