Declared a national park in 1968, Mount Spil rises to 1,513 metres and holds more than 120 endemic plant species. At its foot, the Weeping Rock (Niobe's Rock) is said in legend to represent Niobe, turned to stone; drops of water seeping from hollows in the rock are read as her tears. Nearby are a rock relief of Kybele and rock-cut tombs.
