Ömerli, formerly called Maserti, is a district north-east of Mardin that split off from Savur to become its own district in 1953. The Syriac Orthodox Mor Cercis Church in the district centre has been restored and reopened for worship, and the Ömerli karfoki grape, which turns amber when dried, is a well-known local product.
