Toprakkale is a castle on a 75-metre mounded hill, thought to have been built by the Seleucids between 312 and 64 BC. It was rebuilt in black stone under the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid and was also known as Kınık Castle in Ottoman times. The castle, which gives the district its name, overlooks the surrounding plain. Visiting conditions may have changed since the 2023 earthquakes; check before you go.
