19 Mayıs, 37 km west of Samsun and 17 km from Bafra, borders the western edge of the Kızılırmak Delta. Formerly called Engiz, it became a district in 1987 and is the only district in Türkiye whose name is written with a numeral. Its 22.5 km coastline is important for bird-watching and fishing.
