Çerkezköy, in the northeast of Tekirdağ province, is bordered by İstanbul to the east, Çorlu to the south and west, and Saray to the north, and is a major industrial district. Settled by Circassian migrants under Ottoman rule, it became a district in 1958 and today has a large organized industrial zone employing more than 60,000 people in textiles, machinery and food production.
