Niksar Grand Mosque, also known as the Melik Gazi Mosque, has no inscription; oral tradition dates it to 1145, during the reign of the Danishmendid ruler Nizameddin Yağıbasan (1143-1164). Its deep rectangular prayer hall is enclosed by rubble-stone walls, and its covering system of thirty-five bays, five across and seven deep, is roofed with pendentive domes at the centre and in front of the mihrab and with cross vaults elsewhere.
