Vazelon Monastery, within the boundaries of Kiremitli village in Trabzon's Maçka district, is built on a sheer rock at 1,200 metres and is dedicated to John the Baptist. It takes its name from Zavulon, the old name of the nearby Karadağ mountain considered sacred in Maçka, which changed over time in local speech to Vazelon.
