Saraykent lies in eastern Yozgat, bordered by Akdağmadeni to its east and south, Sorgun to its west and Kadışehri to its north. Known as Karamağara in Ottoman times, the settlement became a municipality in 1972, took the name Saraykent in 1975 and became a district in 1990; Roman-era inn and bathhouse ruins are found here.
