Soma is a large district at the foot of the Yunt Mountains, at the northern tip of Manisa province. Its lignite coal mines and two thermal power plants generate about 10% of Türkiye's electricity; a mining disaster in 2014 killed 301 miners. Tahini halva and walnut Turkish delight are among its well-known products.
